For this neuro note I chose to watch the movie, “The Theory of Everything.” This movie depicts the famous theoretical physicist Steven Hawking and how he fell in love with his future wife Jane, while being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The actor Eddie Redmayne portrays the bright mind of Hawking and actress Felicity Jones portrays Jane Hawking his wife. As a young child, I always wondered how the famous physicist became wheelchair bound and why he had to have his voice projected from a computer. During this movie, I now know just how bad ALS can progress and affect the human body. This fatal disease damages the motor neurons that extend from the brain and spinal cord, which then cause the motor neurons to eventually die. This affects one’s ability to control voluntary muscles that include walking, talking, eating, and every other daily activity one may perform. Importance of Test Positioning

          When a client comes in for the initial evaluation for therapy it is always important to use the correct bony landmarks and place them in the correct position when measuring ROM because it allows the therapist to obtain correct measurements when performing the tests. Having the correct measurements will allow the therapist to build the proper treatment plan for the client so that they can accomplish their goals. Using the correct landmarks and positions is also important so that there is consistency in between practitioners. For example, if for some reason you are unable to make it to work one day and your client is seeing another therapist, it is important that you are both consistent with your measuring. This ensure the client receives accurate measurements and care from each therapist and gives them the reassurance that we are on the same page.           As an occupational therapist, you will come across clients who need to be fit with an assistive device. It is our job to make the client as comfortable as possible during and after the fitting as they will be using the device for an extended period of time. It is important to fit each client appropriately so that we may increase their safety when using the device and increase their confidence and comfort to perform everyday movements. If the client is not fit properly, this can cause misuse of the device and increase fall risk and injury to the client. In regards to comfort, the client will most likely be using this device every day.
